Kristjan Järvi & David Zinman
Third Season: Under Full Sail
The Gstaad Festival Orchestra did not need long in order to make a name for itself and establish its identity. The second season under the direction of Kristjan Järvi was filled with fireworks marked in particular by two extraordinary concerts in the midst of its home, the Alps: the first, in collaboration with the illustrious Renée Fleming, was colored by glamour and New York; phenomenal percussion virtuoso Martin Grubinger and violin maestro Renaud Capuçon contributed to the second. The triumphant season comes to a close in January 2012 with concerts in Vaduz and Munich to make way then for season “Opus 3”, which promises to be even more exciting! Kristjan Järvi will lead a “gigantic” concert with Orff’s “Carmina Burana” and Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” (a concert that will be performed in Merano in South Tyrol before in Gstaad). The second concert, devoted completely to Dvorak, will be led by the legendary David Zinman and feature soloist Truls Mørk. Both conductors have indicated that they are willing to direct projects with the orchestra in 2013 and in 2014.
An exquisite Ambassador for Saanenland
The Gstaad Festival Orchestra is not only a fabulous attraction for visitors to the Menuhin Festival but it also acts as a representative of Saanenland abroad, a symbol of the region’s cosmopolitan atmosphere and highest standards. Since its founding it already has made a name for itself, earning a reputation that opens the doors to prestigious concert halls and events throughout Europe as well as attracting eminent soloists. From Paris to Munich, from La Chaise-Dieu to Vienna, it is considered by critics and audiences alike as an orchestra with a very bright future.
